I could not resist the opportunity to shoot my littlest with the things he loves, his teddy (baby) and Chico (our puppy). One of his only comforts in life besides his family is his little bear that he sleeps with every night and is constantly carrying around with him. He insists that his bear says its own prayers at night and that it must get tucked in and kissed just like him. Chico is his friend to get into trouble with. They run around the house, chase each other, and also Chico has decided he is the best to try to steal little treats from. Oh, the friendships of a teddy bear and a puppy, what could be any better in life for a 3 year old!

My kids are out of school early on Wednesdays. My daughter decides that she just wants to read, while my oldest plays at a friend's house. I have a few hours before I need to start dinner, so I grab my camera and take a few pictures of the 3 still at home. Of course I have a photo of my oldest giving me attitude, because like I said she wants to read and not play photoshoot with mom. :)

I always tell people that I would love to shoot with them, just go out and shoot for fun. To be honest, out of my Istock friends, no one ever takes me up on the offer. Except for now. A friend of mine has gotten a camera, has been shooting and learning, and wanted to go out today. It was a lot of fun. It was not like setting up a shoot, but going out into nature and photographing what captured your eye. I miss doing this, for I have not done it in a long time. I am so glad that we went out today and shot. I am hoping that it becomes a regular pass time for the both of us.

The Holiday season has been crazy for me. I feel as if I have not had time to even think straight. I finally had a few minutes today and I wanted to share a family shoot that I did last weekend. The wonderful family did not want a posed shoot, but a real life one. Where they are always on the run and out, but at the same time have the cutest little man to take care of and entertain. I had the chance to shoot at their house and hopefully capture the true essence of the joys of parenthood and marriage.

I love this family. I have known them for a couple of years now and they are just so much fun to be around. They are some of the most loving and caring people I know. Living in Utah one day it is Fall and then the next it is a winter in wonderland. For the 3rd year in a row I have had the chance to do family shots for this wonderful family. We split the shoot up in two days within 2 days of each other. The first day (thursday) it was a beautiful fall day, the second (saturday), we had beautiful snow all over the ground. Love that you can get so diverse with living here, truly you never know what to expect.

I can not believe that a year has gone by. I did a session with this beautiful family last fall and can not believe how big the kids have gotten and not to mention there is a new addition this time around. I am begining to feel old. All of my beautiful girls from the old neighborhood are getting married. I cherish the moment that I had with them when they were younger and I was their youth leader. I love to see them grow up and what they have and are becoming. They will change the world for the better, it is in them and I hope they never forget it.

Once again I was honored to photograph one of their engagements. Like I said, I am feeling older, but I love that I am still part of their lives.

I can not tell you how happy I am. Another of my girls has gotten married. I have known this beautiful girl since she was about 11 or 12. To be there and see her brother walk her down the aisle and how happy she is, brought tears of happiness and joy to me. I cry easily, but to see a young woman who I love so much and have the opportunity to be there for her on her wedding day could not make me any happier. I had an amazing weekend. I had the chance to participate in a weekend of photo shoots. I met some amazing people and got to hang out with some people who I already love (Todd, Renee, Nikki, James, Jamie, Gina, Jon, and Casey...). Going to something like this makes me realize how talented and amazing people are; make-up artists, hairstylist, wardrobe specialist, designers, and of course all the other photographers. I hope that I was able to make new friendships that will last for a long time.

Our shoots ranged from, aliens, familes and kids, zombies, steam punk,cowboys, people painted gold, and fashion. Here are a few and hope that you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed taking them. :)

Savannah is 13 and lucky to be alive. In 2003 it was discovered that she had a benign brain tumor that destroys everything in its path. She is loving and caring and just one of the sweetest little girls. She has had at least 24 surgeries. Last year because of her brain tumor, her tibia bone in her left leg stopped growing and she had to have surgery and she was in the hospital for 3 months. Savannah just smiles and seems to love life. She loves to sing and gave me the great honor of singing me one of her favorite songs during our shoot.

12 years and 50 miles

Jared and I have now officially been married for 12 years. Yay. Time just flies by. We decided for this year's anniversary, that we would hike a 50 mile loop through Escalante, Ut. It was amazing. What an amazing thing to do with the person who you are spending eternity with. I could not have asked for a better anniversary. I wanted to share some of the fun with you guys, so I did take a few pictures to show how amazing it was.

We decided to take a road trip up to Astoria, Oregon to see some friends and then head down the coasts to the Redwood Forest in California. We went through 5 different states in a car with 4 children and survived. I have to say that it was a great bonding moment for all of us. We enjoyed eachother and every miracle that surrounded us. Nature cures so much, in a soul, life and family. I can never express the love that I have for it.

My project has begun.

One in five females and one in seven males have engaged in some form of self-injury type behavior. The growing concern of “cutting” is now on the forefront for many people.

The “Cutting” Edge Facts

• 90% of self-injury individuals begin harming themselves during their teen years or younger.

• Cutting and other self-injury behavior crosses all cultures and socio-economic norms.

• Cutting and self-injury is a method used by individuals to take care of themselves, their feelings and actions.

• 40% of all individuals who commit self-injury type behaviors are males.

Almost 50% of cutters or self-injury individuals have reported being sexually abused.

• Some studies indicate that cutting and other self-injury behavior is learned from friends or peers.

Self-harm is among our children and many of us do not realize it. It has been said by some that it is easier to allow your own harm and not let the inner harm control you and destroy you. Reality is, is that it is destroying both the inner and the outer of these individuals who participate in this.

These 2 young girls have overcome many obstacles in their life already at such a young age. They have made it a year so far of no self-harm. They found hope and strength in each other. They want others to realize that it is possible to stop and it was better to never start. If you are someone suffering from this, do not let it control you, find someone to talk to you and help you overcome the destruction that it is causing.

(The photos in this series represent the loss and broken feeling that they felt during their time of hurt and pain, but in the end they left it behind and started a new life and beginning by finding the strength in each other to overcome their battle they thought that they were suffering alone.)

I have been asked to take some photos for a non-profit organization about abuse. It will be a series of different kinds of abuse. Today I have had the chance of accomplishing the child abuse side.

Today I had the chance to work with a new model and have to say how impressed I was with her. We were out in the cold and she did not complain once. It started out pretty nice, with the sun out and it being some what nice. However, it turned quickly from sun to no sun and cold. Before you knew it, the snow was falling and I felt as if my fingers were going to fall off. Emily was amazing and so easy to work with. Utah is just beautiful in the winter, but I have to say I am feeling as if I am ready for spring already.

This years theme and project

Last year I had the chance to give away a free photoshoot to a wonderful woman, who has overcome so many trials. I have been inspired to go beyond that this year.

This year I have decided to end the year with a formal photo gallery of a specific theme that I will be working on over the course of the year. The theme I have decided to track is "they shall overcome all things" (D&C 76:60). If you or someone you know has flourished among the trials of life please share your story with me and I will compose a portrait of "overcoming all things". You will receive a photo from the series and I will use these to inspire others to overcome their trials. Thank you for taking this into consideration. I will complete at least 12 of these stories/portraits this year with your help.

This little girl just had her 6 month birthday and I was honored enough to capture some photos of her for her family. She is so photogenic and was pretty much happy/content for the entire photoshoot. How I wish all photoshoots could go as easily as this one did.

Four kids from the age of 6 and under. I am almost positive that I could not do it. To watch the love and patience that these parents have is a wonder and a motivation.

As we showed up to the place where we planned to take photos, it started to rain. I was a little nervous, it was getting cold. I was for sure that everyone was going to be miserable and that the pictures would only show a cold, wet family. To our luck, the rain stopped and we only had the cold wind to compete with. The smiles and joys of children are priceless. It amazes me to see the energy and enthusiasum of a child, and it pleases me even more, when I have the chance to capture it.

Earlier in the year I gave away a free photo shoot. I was given the opportunity and honor to be able to be blessed enough to meet this amazing family and give them a gift that will hopefully last them a lifetime. It was such a delight to work with them and finally meet after months of correspondence. I was truly amazed at how deep the connection of their family and friendship go. I have to say that maybe they are the ones that gave me the gift of a lifetime, to remember and honor those who truly love and care for us.

There is something so special about a baby that it can just make your heart melt. I love children, with all of my heart. I love to see all the stages that they go through. When I was in Florida, I had the chance to visit my Aunt, Uncle, and cousins. I love visiting family, it is a reminder of how lucky I am and what a great family that I have. While we were visiting, my amazing Uncle took us on his boat and gave us a tour of the surrounding lakes where he lives. It is just another reminder of how beautiful it is down there and makes me a little home sick. Thanks again Uncle Tom for allowing the kids to drive the boat. It is still what Gideon talks about.

When I was in Florida and walking the beach on a beautiful morning, I saw this cute little boy and father preparing to hit the waves. I was impressed by this little boy who would go out as far as the adults and by his amazing skill. I decided to go talk to the father and learned that this little 6 year old has recently become sponsored in surfing. He allowed me to take photos of his cute little boy and I have never met anyone so humbled and amazing as this kid. He truly loves what he does and has no idea how amazing he is. I wish him the best as he pursues his now surfing career and thank him for letting me take pictures of him.

About 16 photographer and 12 models at the downtown Salt Lake Library this weekend. We are truly blessed to live in a state with so much talent. How I love to work with other photographers and see so much creativity being produced. It is amazing to see how people encourage and try to help out those who are in the same field as them. Instead of being selfish and only thinking about oneself it seems as if everyone wants to make sure that everyone gets their perfect shot. I want to thank all of those who I met and those who I already have known who came out and made this event wonderful. I also want to again thank Renee and Todd for all they do for the stock community and their efforts in putting this great event on.

I have so many heroes in my life, some my age, some older, and some much, much younger. When I was younger, I was determined that I could save the world and make it a much better place to live. I have found that throughout my life that I have met individuals who have shown me that anything is possible.

I would like all to meet Jonah, he is 2 years old and has been diagnosed with Bronchiectasis. He is treated similarly to those who have Cystic Fibrosis. He makes regular trips up to Primary Children's hospital for different procedures, doctor visits and so forth. He usually always has a cute little smile on his face and has the most contagious laughter that I have ever heard. He is definitely a little boy and gets into mischief even up at the hospital. Oh, how I love this little man and what he has taught me about life, I can never repay him.

I met two beautiful women last night. I had the chance to work with an amazing model (Aalorah) and MUA (Rachel Hunter-Crag). It is amazing when you work with people and afterward you just feel so great because of the people you had the chance to spend the last couple of hours with.

My husband and I went up to Draper the other day to go to the LDS temple up there. It was our first time going to that temple, so I had to take a few shots. I usually do not take photos of architecture, but it was so beautiful, I could not resist. We are thinking of putting one up in the home, which one should I use? Which is your favorite? What fun. I had the chance to shoot Vampires this weekend. Serenity (my daughter) had too much fun shooting. She was laughing and giggling the entire time, it was hard to get her to act scared and frightened. Finally we got some, but it was just fun to do.

Sky Bar

I was asked to come up to Salt Lake to shoot for a business called the Sky bar, in exchange I would be able to use the photos for stock. Of course I could not refuse. I had the chance to work with some other extraordinary photographers and models while up there. My job is so much fun.

I am so use to being behind the camera. When a great friend of mine started airbrushing and asked if I would do a shoot with her, I was a little hesitant, but of course I said yes. Renee has been a role model and great friend to me for quite a few years now. Her work in my eyes exceed so many others. You need to check out her and Todd's work out at bellaora.com. She made me feel like a rock star! I have to say that I had a lot of fun doing this, but I still prefer to be behind the camera and hidden :) .

I did not want to do the same that I have seen before, so we put a little spin on it. It has been snowing all day and from being from Florida, it scares me to drive in the snow (even after living here for 11 years). So what is there to do? Of course I set up some lights and decide to make my kids do a photo shoot with me. Here is the end result. I have to say that I am pleased.

Last Saturday, I had the great privilege of having a twilight shoot with Ally, Tygh, and their two dogs. I have never had the chance to shoot such a family portrait, so it was a little out of my comfort zone. It was great fun. I have never seen such well behaved dogs in my life. I had a lot of fun and enjoyed getting to know the family (dogs included). After seeing how well behaved these dogs were, I went home to tell my husband that I wanted another one, but only if Tygh could train them for us. What a fun little family!

Pi aka Oliver

So how does someone get the name Pi? Well, the answer is simple, from his older sister. As soon as the Jones family knew that they were going to have a baby, the oldest of the siblings insisted that the soon arrival would have to be named Pi. Mom and Dad were not too sure about the name, but decided to name him Oliver on the birth certificate and give him the nickname of Pi . Although, the rest of the world knows Oliver as Pi, he will be the one, when he gets old enough, to decide what he wants to be named in the end. Congratulations to the Jones family for such a cute, sweet, little, Pi.

Went hiking with the family today and could not resist taking some photos. I carried my camera gear and tripod the entire way to get a half decent family shot. I would say that I was not expecting the opportunity that I got as we were leaving. A storm came rolling in and I was at just the right spot to capture some photos on our hike back. I just could not pass up such an opportuniy. It was irresistibly beautiful.

Kenny and Karla's wedding day

Yesterday, Kenny and Karla got married. I was privileged enough to be able to photograph their event. It was so much fun to watch the two of them. It was a day of none stop excitement. The wedding was full of laughter, socializing, dancing, and much more. I wish the two of them my best wishes for their future.
